AMC's zombie survival drama 'The Walking Dead' is headed our way in October, but filming is already well underway for the show's fourth year. Some photos have started to emerge from the set, naturally leading fans to speculate on the plot of the upcoming sixteen episodes.
In case you didn't catch on from the title of this article, some potential spoilers for 'The Walking Dead' season 4 follow.
New photos seem to indicate that Rick's right hand is going to be maimed in the fourth season -- though the extent of this remains to be seen. The show's de facto protagonist has been photographed on set with a bandaged right hand, seeming to indicate that he might be following in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart.
For those of you who haven't read the comics, one of the many major events of the Governor's story arc is the loss of Rick's right hand, which is chopped off by the one-eyed psychopath. It's a plot point that many have assumed wil be skipped over by the television series (which deviates greatly from the comic) due to the very impracticality of the entire thing.
Even comic writer Robert Kirkman expresses regret over maiming Rick in such a way: "One thing I'm adamant about is I don't think that we should cut Rick's hand off [on television]. When I'm writing a comic book, I don't think about what I'm doing. I go, 'Oh, it'd be pretty cool if they cut his hand off right now. That'd be pretty shocking, right?'. Then I do it, and five issues later, I write 'Rick opens a can of beans' and then I look at the script and think 'He can't do that now'. I didn't even think that through."
But, unless these photos depict a much less permanent injury, it looks like Papa Grimes might at least lose a few fingers over the course of the fourth season. Check out all of the photos over at Walking Dead Enthusiasts. (Oh! And it looks like Carol is still alive, as well as that [still spotless] Hyundai!)
The Walking Dead season 4 premieres in October.
