Maggie Gyllenhaal to star in 'The Honorable Woman,' new miniseries from BBC Two and Sundance

Maggie Gyllenhaal might be on the big screen this weekend with Roland Emmerich's new film 'White House Down,' but she's headed to television soon enough. It was announced on Thursday that the actress has signed on to appear in the upcoming miniseries 'The Honorable Woman.'

According to a BBC press release, the series Gyllenhaal as Nessa Stein, "the daughter of a UK Zionist gun-runner [who] inherits her murdered father's company and by dramatically inverting its purpose from supplying tanks to tractors starts a deadly political war."

The series is written and directed by Hugo Blick ('The Shadow Line'). In the press release, Blick shared this about the series: “This is a suspenseful spy thriller about inheritance, political and personal, and the lengths some spies will go to not only to deceive their enemies - but also themselves.”

The eight episode series begins production next month and is slated for a 2014 premiere. The series is a shared production between BBC Two and Sundance, following in the footsteps of this year's mystery drama 'Top of the Lake.'

Other series ordered today by BBC Two include period drama 'Wolf Hall' (about Thomas Cromwell), and comedies 'Our Men,' 'Heading Out,' 'Hooligans' Island,' and 'Count Arthur Strong.' You can check out the entire BBC Two press release here.
