"Pushing Daisies" star Anna Friel has a knack for the darkly comic, and Sky Living is hoping put it to good use for the actress' next role.
Sky Living has signed Friel for the lead role in its upcoming dark comedy/drama "The Psychopath Next Door," as a mentally off-balance young woman who plants her roots in suburbia. The pilot comes from "Shameless" scribe Julie Rutterford, and is scheduled to air in the fall.
ITV Studios executive producer Kate Bartlett said: "This is our first commission for Sky Living and we’re thrilled that Anna Friel will be starring in the lead role as Eve, a glamorous psychopath whose magnetic personality hides her true nature."
The pilot is part of Sky's 'Drama Matters,' a series of one-off hour long specials which serve as potential pilots for new series. Should the audience's interest be piqued, word is that the network is looking toward an 8 episode first season.
"It’s fantastic to be welcoming this incredible line up of talent to the channel – both in front of and behind the camera," said Director of Sky Living Antonia Hurford-Jones. "I'm really proud of 'Drama Matters', each story is unique but together they form a strand of engaging, entertaining quality drama which I think our customers will really enjoy."
