'A' is back in full force as the new season of "Pretty Little Liars" rolls on. This week saw the return of Tyler Blackburn as Caleb. The Hollywood Reporter spoke with the actor about what fans can expect from the new season, as well as the exciting spin-off series "Ravenswood."
His return to Rosewood led to Caleb immediately going above and beyond for girlfriend Hanna, confronting her father about a tenuous murder investigation that could tear her family apart. "I think that the stakes are very high for Hanna and her mom right now, and Hanna's dad has been absent. I think it's a soft spot for Caleb as well because, obviously, all the stuff that's unfolded with his father," Blackburn said. "It hits really close to home, so it's his opportunity to help Hanna with something he understands, the absence of a father. Especially now, Hanna's dealing with a lot. There's a lot of fear and anxiety about her mom and she needs her dad. Caleb knows that. I'm sure Caleb knows he can help her but the more the merrier."
He continued, teasing that the future is not bright for Hanna and her family, "You should be worried. Things are going to get even stickier for them."
Fans can expect to see a boyfriend team-up in future episodes, as Hanna's beau will pair with Spencer's boyfriend Toby to tackle the many mysteries of Rosewood. "There are so many layers to these mysteries that any piece of the onion they can peel away, that's what they are trying to do," Blackburn hinted. "And it gets to a point where Caleb and Toby realize that maybe they're a little bit stronger as a team."
Blackburn's character is set to transition to "Pretty Little Liars" spin-off, the more supernaturally-themed "Ravenswood." The upcoming series, set to premiere in October, will find Caleb delving into his family's past, investigating a curse that has plagued his hometown for several generations. The actor expects that his character's tumultuous relationship with his father could be explored further in the new series, stating, "I think that it's just a relationship that will be a work in progress for a while. With 'Ravenswood' especially, Caleb starts to uncover more about his ancestry so there's opportunity for that relationship to be revisited through that, so it leaves it open-ended."
Don't miss the next new episode of "Pretty Little Liars," Tuesday on ABC Family.
