CBS was left in a bit of a bind when it decided that Mary Elizabeth Ellis (best known for her work on 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia') was not the right fit to play Debbie, the sister of Will Arnett's character Nathan on its upcoming series 'The Millers.'
But it thinks it has found the answer to its problem, in the form of 'Glee's Jayma Mays. She will be coming aboard to play Debbie, a married mother of two who takes the news of her parent's split hard. Her father (Beau Bridges) moves in with her, while her mother (Margo Martindale) moves in with Nathan, who is a recent divorcee himself.
Ellis played the role of Debbie in the pilot opposite Michael Rappaport, who played her husband. He has also left the series and is being recast. That doesn’t seem like a great start, having to recast two important roles right off the bat, does it?
This will be Mays first series regular role since she was bumped to recurring on 'Glee,' where she plays guidance counselor Emma. She has also appeared on 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'The League.'
She is expected to make a few more appearances on 'Glee' heading forward, as well.
The Millers premieres on CBS Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8:30 p.m.
