Wedding bells were ringing today as two Canadian love-birds tied the knot. In what is likely one of the most patriotic celebrity weddings to take place, Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert (‘Happy Endings’) and Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf have wed! The ceremony took place inside the Air Canada Centre where the lovely couple donned hockey jerseys and sang the national anthem to one another in place of their vows. Wait, I think I might have my facts wrong.
The ceremony ACTUALLY took place in the beautiful St. James Church in Summerfield, Prince Edward Island. According to Rev. Paul Egan, who led the service, the wedding was an event to remember. “It’s a big wedding,” he says. “Probably the biggest I’ve ever done in my 46 years, as far as the celebrity part of it goes." The guest list reportedly topped out at about 300 people and there was sure to be more than a few familiar faces in the crowd.
While the couple (sadly) didn’t wear hockey jerseys for their ceremony, the wedding still had a few special touches. The church was decorated with maple leaves and the bride arrived in style in a black Chevrolet Camaro convertible. The couple chose Prince Edward Island as their wedding destination because of its beautiful landscape, waters and their history of spending summers there together. Phaneuf chose a night on the island last September to pop the question to Cuthbert after 5 years of dating.
Congratulations to the happy couple on their happy ending!
