'House' Alum Lisa Edelstein Makes Move to 'Castle'

Lisa Edelstein

Who doesn’t want to move from a house to a castle?

After spending 7 seasons on ‘House,’ actress Lisa Edelstein is getting a fancy upgrade and a multi-episode arc on the cop drama ‘Castle.'

‘Castle,' which stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, closed season five with Beckett (Katic) facing some tough decisions. Should she move to Washington D.C. to start a new job working on a task force at the U.S. attorney general’s office? What should she do about Castle’s (Fillion) marriage proposal? When ‘Castle’ returns for season six, Edelstein may play a big role in helping Beckett make her decision.

Edelstein will be playing the role of Rachel McCord, a “tough and highly-skilled Federal Investigator whose appearance plays a vital role in Beckett’s decisions about her future." As a huge fan of Fillion, I sort of hope that the decision tips in Castle’s favor. Edelstein will be jumping right in when the series returns, appearing in the very first episode to shake things up.

This is not Edelstein’s first television role since her long-stay on ‘House’ as Cuddy. Since the medical drama came to an end, Edelstein has since appeared in roles on the shows ‘The Good Wife,' ‘Elementary,' ‘House of Lies’ and ‘Scandal.'

Do you look forward to seeing Edelstein on ‘Castle’? What do you think Beckett should do: go to Washington or say ‘yes’ to Castle?

That's terrible news. I agree with post No.5 by anonymous, that woman was great as evil rule-enforcing Cuddy, but completely lost with anything requiring humour. As an Antagonist (like temporary new Boss in D.C.) she might be ok, but I hope that she'll be written out fast!

I really like the possibilities of newly available plot-lines to the writers of a shift to DC, political intrigue and espionage cases seem right in the wheelhouse of the writers. Maybe it work as a spin-off, as the believability factor of having a writer running around crime scenes is already a stretch but somehow works for a small detective unit in NYC... it absolutely wouldn't fly on a Federal level, unless he goes through the training and ends up as an agent himself. What would his mom do? leave Broadway and her students? Not likely, and her dependency has been built up too strongly for it to simply disappear unless she's killed off. the two other detectives have great chemistry as well, but the captain could be killed off and no one would notice. Edelstein seems to be well cast for her role's description and she's talented... which obviously didn't shine through enough as a major character in "Vegas," as that didn't appear in the list of her roles post-House.

The Squab and The Quail, Human Factor and Watershed ruined Beckett that took 5 years to evolve and made Castle look like a doormat to Beckett. Castle needs to get back to the Magic that made castle a top ten show in season 5. Taking the Job in DC would be disaster for Beckett but would ruin the show.

Wasn't she in House for 7 Seasons, not 8.... Or am I forgetting that she came back?

NOT looking forward to Edelstein. I can't stand this woman. If she is on for more than a couple of episodes I'm gone from Castle. Becket should go to Washington.Agree with anonymous that it would freshen up the show.

Beckett should go to Washington ... and Castle should follow her. The other detectives in New York and Castle's mother are sucking the life out of the series. They are to much of the same old, same old, in every episode. Time to freshen up the series by relocating Castle and Beckett to a new city and having them break in a new set of co-workers in Beckett's new job. Alternatively, if Beckett's new job were to have her tackle cases all over the US it would let the series have Beckett and Castle deal with a new set of cops of various kinds (FBI, state cops, local police forces, etc) instead of having another set of boring partners repeated in every episode. Ie., the series could be more about Beckett and Castle - and really no other regulars that bore the pants off you like Martha, Esposito, and Ryan.
