Season 4 of ‘Hawaii Five-0,’ which airs September 27, will feature the return of a character from the original series, as Chi McBride will play SWAT Captain Lou Grover. McBride brings his veteran presence, as he’s played characters on ‘Boston Public,’ ‘Human Target’ and ‘Golden Boy,’ and had roles in movies such as ‘The Terminal.’
Executive Producer Peter Lenkov spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what the character will bring. “Recently transferred to Hawaii from Chicago, Grover isn’t easily sold on Five-0′s tactics, referring to the task force as: ‘McGarrett and his merry band of do-whatever-the-hell-they-want.’ What Five-0 does conflicts with Grover’s own style of law enforcement. And that creates good conflict, so prepare for some combustive tension between the two this season.”
The addition of the Captain Lou Grover will bring familiar conflict, playing off reservations held by others within Honolulu PD’s brass. The authoritative Captain is a common character in police shows, so it will be interesting to see how the writers of ‘Five-0’ develop the role.
News of McBride follows reports from last month about Jorge Garcia doing a guest spot this season, following a line of actors who previously had roles on ‘Lost’ featured on ‘Five-0.’
The show will need a boost, as this season will air in the always difficult Friday evening timeslot. The good news about this move is that it will allow for a weekend party atmosphere, when they show the season premiere on an outdoor Waikiki beach setting. The show has premiered this way in previous seasons—a red carpet event with crowds of thousands.
