It looks like Claire Matthews, played by Natalie Zea, will be alive and kicking when ‘The Following’ returns to the small screen for Season 2 - at least for now, that is.
If you recall, the dark, thrilling and mysterious drama’s first season ended with Claire and Ryan (Kevin Bacon) getting stabbed by Molly (Jennifer Ferrin) aka one of Joe Carroll’s (James Purefoy) followers and Ryan’s ex-girlfriend/occasional lover. The cliffhanger left viewers wondering if both lived or died.
Well, in an exclusive interview with TV Guide Magazine, Zea revealed that she has signed on for the Kevin Williamson series, but it could quite possibly be short-lived. It seems, either Claire will die when the series returns, or a new storyline will be on the horizon.
“My concern, and [series creator] Kevin Williamson’s concern, was always, is there more story to tell with Claire? And we both discovered that maybe there wasn’t,” Zea revealed to TV Guide.
According to TV Guide Magazine sources, Claire was originally supposed to die at season one's end, but FOX executives urged for the character to remain alive. TVLine also confirms there were two different versions of the season finale.
Zea was extremely close to not signing a deal at all, but she will be back with one ominous question hanging in the air: will Claire live or die?
For Ryan groupies, it might be hard to see a man who is cursed by death lose someone he dearly loves.
Would you like to see Claire stick around or give her last breath in Season 2?
