For fans of the ABC Family drama ‘The Lying Game,’ here is some bad news: it’s officially done.
That’s right, Alexandra Chando, star of the series (she played twins Emma Becker and Sutton Mercer), announced moments ago via Twitter and Instagram that the show will not be returning for a third season: “To our awesome #lyinggame fans, thank you for these two amazing seasons. Unfortunately, Abc Family has decided not to bring us back for a third season. We so wanted to do 10 more for you guys! Thanks for your support and keep up with the cast to see what's next for us! Xx”
It’s been up in the air for quite some time if the show would be back, as it had its ups and downs in ratings. The series first launched in 2011, and it looked like it would be a big hit. It’s based on Sara Shepard’s books of the same name--Shepard also writes ‘The Pretty Little Liars’ book series.
The drama focused on twins Emma and Sutton, who were separated at birth. One twin, Emma, was given up for adoption and entered the foster system, while Sutton was welcomed into a loving, rich family. Eventually, the two discovered one another and researched into their dark and mysterious past hoping to learn more about their birth mom and why they were separated.
It could get quite complicated at times, but the show definitely showed an improvement - and much excitement - last season by embracing more mysteries, deaths and lies. I guess we’ll never find out if Alec died or if Thayer really was a killer, or if poor, hopeless Kristin would ever catch on to the twins’ secret.
‘The Lying Game’ also starred Adrian Pasdar, Charisma Carpenter, Andy Buckley, Blair Redford, Allie Gonino and Tyler Christopher.
Are you sad to see the show depart ABC Family?
