It was just a few days ago that our own news staff broke the story of Cory Monteith's all too early passing, found here. Immediately, there were two questions. The first was how it happened and the second was what did Fox plan to do with the Juggernaut that is 'Glee' in the aftermath. The autopsy, again covered by our staff and found here, gave us the answer to the first question. Now, we have at least a partial answer to the second. Shooting of season 5 will be postponed, as will the premiere.
Production will now be near the end of August and the premiere itself will be on Thursday, September 26, 2013. While this does not even begin to allow for wounds to heal, it does allow for the process to begin and for a collective deep breath to be taken.
Not only was Monteith an original cast member and storyline front runner, he was also an integral part of the continued success of the next class of New Directions. Finn Hudson, Monteith’s character, was firmly in a position to replace Mr. Shue if and when he chose to depart. Much the same as when he stepped in during his absence for three months last season. With so many lives in the firing line, it’s more than understandable for extra time to be taken.
