Kevin Alejandro, Michael Jai White to Appear on 'Arrow'

Alejandro and White

More fun 'Arrow' news coming out of Comic-Con: Kevin Alejandro and Michael Jai White will both be appearing in the second season, as recognizable villains from 'Green Arrow' comics!

It's a good thing that Black Canary will be joining The Hood in Starling City, as Oliver Queen has quite a task ahead of him; 'Arrow' is bringing in some heavy-hitting villains to populate the upcoming season. Sebastian BloodFirst up is Sebastian Blood, being played by guest star Kevin Alejandro. Alejandro is best known for his television roles on 'Southland,' 'True Blood' and the recent series 'Golden Boy.' Alejandro also appeared in the controversial Kevin Smith feature film 'Red State.' As Sebastian Blood, Alejandro takes on the role of a villainous cult leader, the latest to take up the mantle of Brother Blood. In DC Comics, whomever holds the title of Brother Blood is the high priest of the Church of Blood, believed to be an emissary to the demonic entity known as Trigon. Given 'Arrow's hard-line "no super powers" stance, Sebastian Blood will likely be dangerous due to his true-believing followers rather than any supernatural connection to Trigon. As the press release from CW states, "Sebastian is an alderman who rises to power in the wake of the earthquake that devastated Starling City in Arrow’s first-season finale. Blood’s “man-of-the-people” popularity instantly places him at odds with Oliver Queen, whose family he blames for the quake."

Blood was introduced as a villain to the Teen Titans rather than to Green Arrow himself... and the Teen Titans have often been affiliated with the hero known as Arsenal, better known as Roy Harper (who, in the world of 'Arrow,' is played by Colton Haynes). Could the arrival of Sebastian Blood expedite Harper's transition to heroics of his own..?

Next up is Michael Jai White, who is recognizable for his featured role in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Bronze TigerKnight.' White has a cult fan following due to his roles in 'Black Dynamite,' 'Spawn' and 'Blood and Bone.' This martial arts expert will be bringing his imposing presence to the character Bronze Tiger, an underrated name in the DC Comics universe. Bronze Tiger is one of the world's foremost martial artists who began as a criminal but, later on in the comics, became an ally to Batman. White's casting seems the perfect choice to bring this little-known character some prominence.

From the official CW press release: "Michael Jai White plays Ben Turner, a claw-wielding assassin better known as Bronze Tiger, who’s well known to DC Comics fans as a member of both the League of Assassins and the Suicide Squad. On Arrow, he’ll form an unholy alliance with fan-favorite villain China White (played by Kelly Hu), another well-established character in the DC Comics universe."

The first season of 'Arrow' will be released on DVD and BluRay on September 17. Check out a trailer for the upcoming season here!

Ha! As soon as I saw Michael Jai White listed I thought "Bronze Tiger"? Hopefully he opens the door to other martial arts characters like Richard Dragon or Lady Shiva (who especially fits with the reveal of Black Canary).
