Gale Ann Hurd, the wonderful producer behind such smash hits as 'The Walking Dead,' seems to have another potential success on her hands--and she's got screen star Cary Elwes aboard for the ride.
Elwes just signed on to round out the cast for 'Horizon,' an upcoming sci-fi pilot from USA Network that stars Ruth Bradley. Set during the height of World War II, 'Horizon' centers on Lauren (Ruth Bradley), a secretary at the FBI who begins a secretive investigation into files that have been stamped with the codename “horizon.” The mysterious project provides links to the presumed death of her husband (to be played by Taylor Handley) and the disappearance of a young girl.
This is an interesting twist on the sci-fi genre, as 'Horizon' is both a World War II period piece and an alien story. Bradley joined the project as the female lead prior to any other casting; she is best known for her television roles in 'Primeval' and 'Love/Hate.' Elwes rocketed to stardom after the 1987 feature film 'The Princess Bride' and the 1990s comedic follow-up 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights.' More recently, Elwes has a recurring role on 'Psych' and appeared in the TV movie 'Anna Nicole.'
As mentioned, Taylor Handley will play Lauren's husband George Howl, who mysteriously resurfaces after disappearing in a battle over the Pacific which the Navy has deemed classified. Famiglietti plays Will “Sparks” Sparkman, a by-the-book FBI agent whose crush on co-worker Lauren is obvious to everyone but her.
The pilot is being directed by Yves Simoneau from a script by Bridget Tyler. What do you think of the concept behind USA's latest pilot? The cast certainly seems strong enough!
