Entertainment Weekly broke the news earlier this evening that 'Rome' star Indira Varma has been cast in the upcoming fourth season of the hit HBO series 'Game of Thrones.'
Fans of the George R. R. Martin book series are undoubtedly quite curious as to which role Varma has won: she will be playing the role of Ellaria Sand. Ellaria is the lover of Prince Oberyn (played by Pedro Pascal, who was cast last month). As fans of the book series are well aware, Ellaria and Oberyn have quite a snakey future ahead of them.
Varma first rose to fame with roles on both 'Torchwood' and the hit series 'Rome,' but she has worked steadily in film and television since. Varma starred in the television series 'The Whistleblowers' (2007), 'Moses Jones' (2009), 'Luther' (2010), 'Human Target' (2011), 'Silk' and 'Hunted' (2012). That is one busy actor. Varma also appeared in the upcoming feature film 'Mindscape,' presently undergoing postproduction.
As described by HBO, 'Game of Thrones' is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. Ellaria's lover, Prince Oberyn, is known in the novels as the Red Viper. Oberyn is a brash, charming, cunning prince of Dorne (part of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros). His sister Elia was brutally murdered by the Lannister knight Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane when Mad King Aerys was overthrown by Robert Baratheon and the Lannisters. In season four, Oberyn comes to King’s Landing with revenge on his mind. That's about as spoiler-free as I can keep it, folks.
'Game of Thrones' is slated to return with an all-new fourth season this Autumn. Before the show returns, another 'Game of Thrones'-themed beer will be released in September. Check it out!
