Will Mindy and Casey Get Hitched on ‘The Mindy Project’?

When ‘The Mindy Project’ returns for its second season this fall one couple will possibly be tying the knot. Yes, it looks like Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and Pastor Casey (Anders Holm) will be planning an ‘impromptu’ wedding.

Before Mindy and Danny (Chris Messina) shippers start boycotting the hit FOX comedy, let’s get more details.

Yesterday, reporters at the Television Critics Association press event walked onto the set of ‘The Mindy Project’ at Universal Studios and were greeted with a banner reading “Happy Wedding Day” and a cake reading “Happy Wedding, Casey and Mindy!” inside Mindy’s New York City apartment.

Talk about spoiler alert and a big step for the couple who fans last saw leaving NYC for Haiti! In the premiere, the duo returns from their volunteer trip, and they have some major news for their friends and co-workers. "Basically in this one episode, we're trying to have a big move between Mindy and Casey. We didn't want to start the season, 'Oh, we're back from Haiti and that [Casey] guy is gone.' In the first set of episodes, we're really playing through this relationship further and seeing where this goes,” executive producer Matt Warburton said.

Will Mindy and Casey Get Hitched on ‘The Mindy Project’?Surprisingly, Mindy will not walk down the aisle at Casey’s work aka church. Warburton revealed, "It's a rush job, so everyone's pitching in. They have to leave Tamara (Xosha Roquemore) on cake duty. Everyone's helping decorating to make it a good experience. But it's already weird to have a wedding where it's mainly your work friends at it, and that might become an issue.

"Everybody is sort of thrilled for her," he continued. "The nice thing is when we cast Anders, everyone loves that character so much, and the characters love him so much. In addition to being a good guy, he's a big weirdo. People are just happy for the two."

In ‘Mindy’ fashion, the wedding does not go as smoothly as the couple would like. For example, the cake is more ‘dirty’ than the traditional wedding cake. Kaling said, "We have a wedding in this apartment, an impromptu wedding, and because it's impromptu they can only get a cake from the exotic cake store -- a cake that looks like a penis or a cake that looks like a Torah. And Mindy's like, 'We'll take the penis cake.' It's one of the most offensive scenes we ever shot. She goes, 'Ugh, gross, I'll take the penis cake.'"

It sounds like the wedding won’t disappoint fans, but it will end up disappointing Casey, "Mindy gets to be single again pretty soon," Kaling noted.

Mindy and Danny shippers: see I told you not to worry!

Casey won’t be gone for good, as he will return every now and again just like Mindy’s ex Josh (Tommy Dewey), "What I hope we promise and deliver to the audience is even when people are gone, they're not gone forever," Warburton said. "Like Mindy had a big breakup with Josh, but we've already brought him back and we're going to bring him back again. If Anders is gone, we'll definitely see him again."

Now, the show doesn’t come out and say Mindy officially ties the knot with Casey, but either way, the relationship won’t last.

You can catch the premiere of ‘The Mindy Project’ on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 p.m. EST.
