Attention ‘American Idol’ fans: at least one judge has been confirmed for the upcoming Season 13 of the FOX reality competition show. Country music singer Keith Urban, who was on the show from 2012-2013, will be coming back for another season. Urban is the only judge from last season of ‘Idol’ who will be returning, and let’s face it, he was the only judge from last season who was remotely tolerable to watch. Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and ‘Idol’ veteran Randy Jackson all announced their departure from the show at the end of Season 12.
FOX entertainment chief Kevin Reilly confirmed today at the Television Critics Association press tour that Urban would be taking his seat at the judges table once again next season. "The fans really liked him. Keith is a really funny guy,” said Reilly.
If you thought that last season of ‘Idol’ was pretty terrible (and you probably did, judging from the ratings from Season 12 which plummeted with each episode), you will hopefully be pleased with some planned changes to the show for the upcoming season. "It really became too much about the judges," said Reilly. "We want some comfortable judges to make it comfortable to view." In other words, you shouldn’t have to sit through shameless bickering and drama for the sake of drama this next season.
Reilly went on to say that they are planning to refocus the attention from the judges to the contestants, however, there is already plenty of buzz happening about who will fill up the remainder of the spots on the judges panel. Names such as Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Will.i.am and Dr. Luke are all being thrown out as possibilities, but no confirmations have been made yet beyond that of Urban.
Are you happy to hear that Keith Urban will be returning for another season of ‘Idol’?
