Jim Gaffigan & Peter Tolan teamed up last season and produced a pilot, which unfortunately wasn't picked up to series. Now, CBS is letting the boys take another crack and is developing another pilot out of the same project.
It seems as though the second-chance for the project will come without too many new parameters from the network, as the project has been allowed to remain a single-camera comedy. This is in contrast to another series that has been given a second crack, 'The McCarthys,' which has been transmuted from a single-camera to a multi-camera project for the second go-around.
Gaffigan is a massively-popular stand-up comedian who has been collecting several hilarious roles on various sitcoms for years. 'The Jim Gaffigan Project'
is a fictional sitcom based on Jim Gaffigan's actual life, living with his wife and five children in a small, two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Anyone who has seen Gaffigan's comedy knows just how much material the comic has gleaned from being a father of so many kids, so expect those same laughs to be ported over into this pilot.
Gaffigan is also of a dying breed in stand-up comedy: he makes audiences howl with laughter without ever cursing or using any profanity. He shouldn't have to amend his style to fit with a CBS audience, which is a good thing.
Tolan is a veteran writer of television and feature films with dozens of impressive and successful credits to his name. Tolan has written television comedies from 'Murphy Brown' to 'The Larry Sanders Show,' as well as some drama work on 'Rescue Me.'
Here's a taste of some of the comedy Gaffigan can cull from his children--and this was recorded before he had his fifth!
