Seth Rogen will be the Roast Master and host for the ‘Comedy Central Roast of James Franco.’ Comedy Central made the announcement today for the special which will air, Labor Day, September 2nd at 10 p.m. Eastern.
The two met each other in 1999 while working together on the cult series, ‘Freaks and Geeks’ (clip below). Since then they have gone on to co-star in a few movies together (such as the hits 'Pineapple Express' and 'This is the End') while also working on their own projects independently.
Rogen should make a good host. He carries stage experience from award shows, has done some stand-up performances, and, more than anything, he’s not afraid to let his material cross-the-line. His trademark laugh will also lighten up the deus.
Like any Roast Master, Rogen now opens himself up to some jabs from the deus. This shouldn’t be a problem: both Rogen and Franco starred as themselves in this summer’s comedy flick, ‘This is the End,’ where they made light of their careers and lifestyles.
Veteran roaster and stand-up comic Jeff Ross may be the true star of these roasts. His experience as a roaster dates back even prior to the Comedy Central roasts, when he earned the respect of the Friars’ Club by roasting alongside older comics. He will go after both Franco and Rogen with no restraint as he makes his way through skewering the entire deus.
What jokes do you think Rogen will use to roast his friend Franco? As always, please keep it clean.
