'Game of Thrones' fans have registered mixed opinions about the third season key art, which features the shadow of a dragon flying over a plain grey surface. The packaging for the third season seems likewise vanilla -- even Best Buy's alternate packagings are reprints of already-used artwork.
But if you're disappointed about these offerings, worry not: Amazon is here to help. The online retailer has its own exclusive 'Game of Thrones' season 3 Blu-ray packaging, and it's far and away the most exciting of the bunch. It's a three-dimensional version of the normal key art, with the difference being that it includes the actual dragon. As you can see above, it's pretty damn cool.
Though the image above is only an artists' rendering -- the final version of the artwork will be released on September 1 -- it's enough to pique my interest. The limited edition set will be a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo package. Here's the full description from Amazon:
"In this limited edition sculpture, Daenerys’s dragon from the season 3 poster art takes center stage with its impressive wingspan and a highly detailed tail, which wraps around the core of the piece. Created in durable heavy weight material, the highly textured collectible is finished with a weathered patina evoking the feel of Westeros and a bygone era. The collectible also contains a hidden compartment which houses The Complete Third Season."
Of course, the set, which will be available on Amazon in the U.S., the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany, boasts a hefty price tag of $104.99 (up from the standard Blu-ray's $55.99). It's something that only the biggest 'Game of Thrones' fans will want to buy; luckily, there are plenty of those to go around. The set will be released on February 14 of next year.
'Game of Thrones' will return for its fourth season next spring.
