Rhys Ifans to Co-Star in 'Trending Down' on Showtime

Rhys Ifans

Despite the fact that no one is quite certain how to pronounce his name, Rhys Ifans has built himself a very impressive career in feature film and television. Fresh off of his blockbuster appearance in 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' Ifans has signed on to co-star in Showtime's upcoming pilot project 'Trending Down.'

The forty-seven year old Welsh actor hit it big in Hollywood with his appearance in 1999's 'Notting Hill,' where he starred opposite Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Since then, Ifans has successfully balanced popular big-budget pictures ('The Replacements,' 'Little Nicky') with smaller-scale films to feed his creative spirit ('Rancid Aluminium,' 'Greenberg'). After his more recent roles in 'Harry Potter and the Ifans as the LizardDeathly Hallows' and the aforementioned 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' Ifans' Hollywood stock has never been higher; this casting in 'Trending Down' is a "good get" by Showtime.

So who will Ifans be co-starring with in 'Trending Down'? How about Philip Seymour Hoffman and Kathryn Hahn? Hoffman isn't just a movie star: he's an Academy Award winner for his starring role in 'Capote.' Since 'Capote,' Hoffman has received three further Academy Award nominations; his involvement in 'Trending Down' all but ensures the project will be picked up to series. As for Hahn, she has been pleasing audiences on 'Parks & Recreation' as Jennifer Barkley.

'Trending Down' is described as "a blistering attack on youth-obsessed culture." The series centers on Thom Payne (Hoffman), a man facing his own obsolescence after his advertising agency is taken over. Ifans has signed on to play Thom’s boss, Jonathan.
