‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Halts Production, Co-Stars Respond to Lee Thompson Young’s Death

Yesterday, Hollywood was shaken up with another tragic death when it was announced by TMZ that Disney Channel and ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ star Lee Thompson Young died at 29 years old after committing suicide.

Soon after, fans wondered what would happen to the hit TNT drama that is currently in its fourth season (it has also been renewed for a fifth). According to Deadline, filming will not occur today and the set will remain “dark.” During the production hiatus, producers will most likely figure out how to go forward. There is no word yet about how long production will be halted.

Since the heartbreaking announcement, many have opened up about Young and his death. TNT, Warner Bros. and executive producer Janet Tamaro released a joint statement, which reads, "Everyone at 'Rizzoli & Isles' is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and off-screen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother."

Showrunner Tamaro also took to Twitter to express her sorrow, “We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light. We are broken-hearted. #RIPLeeThompsonYoung.” She added, “Unbearably sad. We love who you were, and that's what we'll remember. #RIPLeeThompsonYoung.”

Young’s co-stars also responded via Twitter. Leading actress Angie Harmon, who played Young’s partner on the show, tweeted a thank you to her fans, “LOVE Y'ALL... IMMENSELY.” Jordan Bridges posted, “Goodbye @Lee_T_Young I am shattered at your startling departure. It was an honor to work with you. Love and Prayers to your family.”

‘Blue Bloods’ star Donnie Wahlberg also tweeted the following, “#RIPLeeThompsonYoung absolutely shocking. one of the kindest actors I've ever crossed paths with.” Wahlberg appeared in two episodes of Season 1 of ‘Rizzoli & Isles.’

A new episode of 'Rizzoli & Isles' airs tonight, and it will be difficult to see Young onscreen, but also a great way to commemorate and honor his memory.

It's so surreal, we don't realise that the characters we see on TV everyday are played by real people with real lives. It's a blow to those of us who only knew of his work, I can't imagine how his family, co-stars and friends are feeling. RIP Lee Thompson Young, you were an amazingly talented actor and I'm sure you were as wonderful to know as a person. All we can do now is pray for your family and friends and hope that those affected by your death find a way to move on but at the same time keep your memory alive. You will be sadly missed.

I think this Lee's passing should give us all a shake and make us realise that we need to take a better look at those around us and really see if they need help, even if it's not from ourselves but a professional. No one truly knows what lies in the deepest part of someone elses mind or what torments us to the point of breaking. We call our selves Humans and say we have Humanity, lets all prove it and try harder to prevent Suicides. Lets make a pledge that Lee will be the last and do what ever it takes to make this as true as possible. You will be missed by the milloins of people you have entertained, by the friends you made in your life and mostly by your family.

I liked him-and love the show-don't wanna see it end--but annoys me when they have fame/fortune-and still there not happy--people who have money always say it don't make u happy--but with someone with 10p in my account-I will tell it would--im a single dad-I suffer from bipolar-had many yrs-every day is a fight-but ive lasted 10yrs-and even thou came close-I have not-as for my family's sake-- like I said I like him-but to all the other stars who say money don't help--donate it all away-and then say it again
