Yesterday, Hollywood was shaken up with another tragic death when it was announced by TMZ that Disney Channel and ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ star Lee Thompson Young died at 29 years old after committing suicide.
Soon after, fans wondered what would happen to the hit TNT drama that is currently in its fourth season (it has also been renewed for a fifth). According to Deadline, filming will not occur today and the set will remain “dark.” During the production hiatus, producers will most likely figure out how to go forward. There is no word yet about how long production will be halted.
Since the heartbreaking announcement, many have opened up about Young and his death. TNT, Warner Bros. and executive producer Janet Tamaro released a joint statement, which reads, "Everyone at 'Rizzoli & Isles' is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and off-screen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother."
Showrunner Tamaro also took to Twitter to express her sorrow, “We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light. We are broken-hearted. #RIPLeeThompsonYoung.” She added, “Unbearably sad. We love who you were, and that's what we'll remember. #RIPLeeThompsonYoung.”
Young’s co-stars also responded via Twitter. Leading actress Angie Harmon, who played Young’s partner on the show, tweeted a thank you to her fans, “LOVE Y'ALL... IMMENSELY.” Jordan Bridges posted, “Goodbye @Lee_T_Young I am shattered at your startling departure. It was an honor to work with you. Love and Prayers to your family.”
‘Blue Bloods’ star Donnie Wahlberg also tweeted the following, “#RIPLeeThompsonYoung absolutely shocking. one of the kindest actors I've ever crossed paths with.” Wahlberg appeared in two episodes of Season 1 of ‘Rizzoli & Isles.’
A new episode of 'Rizzoli & Isles' airs tonight, and it will be difficult to see Young onscreen, but also a great way to commemorate and honor his memory.
