Just over a week ago, we brought you the news that 'Boss' star Connie Nielsen had been cast as a possible new love interest for Ryan Hardy on FOX horror/drama 'The Following.' At the time, the role of Ryan's niece had yet to be cast. Now, EW reports that former '90210' actress Jessica Stroup has landed the gig, and that the character will be named Max. I assume that's short for Maxine or something, but hey, the name worked for Jessica Alba. Max is actually a New York cop, who reconnects with her uncle while working on a case.
Also joining the cast in addition to Nielsen and Stroup is Tiffany Boone, who will play the character of Mandy, a naive young girl who falls in with the cult of Joe Carroll. Boone is best known for the movie 'Beautiful Creatures', but has also appeared on 'Southland' and 'Grey's Anatomy.' Previously announced season two hires include 'NYPD Blue's James McDaniel, along with 'Dexter' alums Valerie Cruz and Sam Underwood. Daniels will play an FBI agent, Cruz an NYPD officer, and Underwood another member of the villainous cult.
James Purefoy will be returning as a regular too, but it isn't yet clear in what fashion he'll do so. Carroll may have survived the boathouse explosion, he may not have. Producers aren't telling. He may appear only in Jigsaw style flashbacks for all we know. Natalie Zea will also return, but only for a limited run. Claire Matthews, we hardly knew ye.
Is Jessica Stroup a good choice to play Ryan Hardy's niece?
