Walton Goggins will head south of the border to develop a new crime drama for FOX.
According to Variety, the show will be called ‘Gringo,’ and will center around an American police officer who moves to Mexico with his Mexican wife. While there, he then gets himself entangled in the local cartel drug wars.
Goggins will partner with writer Adam Fierro to produce the project. They developed the story for the show together, with Fierro set to write the script. The two worked together on ‘The Shield,’ with Goggins playing character Shane Vendrell and Fierro working as a writer and producer. Fierro has since worked as a writer and producer on ‘Hawthorne’ and ‘The Walking Dead.’
Goggins has had a solid career following his run on ‘The Shield.’ Notably, he has played antagonist Boyd Crowder on ‘Justified,’ transsexual prostitute Venus Van Dam on ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ and had a role in Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained.’
There is no confirmation that Goggins will star in the lead role, but hopefully he does. He has done tremendous work in supporting roles, playing well off of Michael Chiklis and Timothy Olyphant. It would be nice to see him take charge in a promising lead role such as this.
Below is a two-part discussion with Goggins and Olyphant, where they give some insight into how they approach scenes on ‘Justified.’
Would you like to see Goggins play the “gringo” on this crime drama?
