Earlier this week, we reported that Dr. Luke, famed record producer and musician, was going to take the vacant third judges' chair on the upcoming season of 'American Idol.' Unfortunately, the very next day we reported that Luke had to pull out of the judging gig due to a conflict with his contractual obligations to Sony Music. Well one mere day after that, it seems that 'American Idol' may have landed themselves a bigger fist, with a far more recognizable name: Harry Connick Jr.
Connick, who is an award-winning musician, composer, producer and actor, could very well be the one to take the third judging seat on next season's 'American Idol.' Connick would join existing judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, who have already signed on for the next season. As it stands, this is merely a rumor, however Deadline is reporting the possibility, noting that Connick has gone on record as being a big fan of the FOX singing competition series.
With his star rising in the music scene during the 1980s, Connick was approached by director Rob Reiner to compose the soundtrack to the 1989 romantic comedy 'When Harry Met Sally.' Well Connick did a masterful job, the film became an instant classic, the soundtrack went double-platinum and Connick has been a huge star ever since. His holiday album 'When My Heart Finds Christmas' became a best-seller in 1993 and remains one of the most popular holiday albums in American history.
When asked back in May on 'Ellen' if he would be interested in judging on the series, Connick said "well, yeah, I mean I had a really good time! I had a good time mentoring. Judging is a whole different deal; I don’t know how good I would be at that."
