‘Out of Sight’ and ‘Minority Report’ screenwriter Scott Frank will pen a pilot script for FX called ‘Hoke.’
‘Hoke’ is about character Hoke Moseley, an eccentric, noir homicide detective living in Miami during 1985. The show will be based on crime novelist Charles Willeford’s novels, ‘Sideswipe,’ ‘New Hope for the Dead,’ and ‘The Way We Die Now.’
Paul Giamatti is attached to star as Hoke, a character who is said to be dealing with a mid-life crisis while he solves murders around the city.
Giamatti is one of the most talented actors out there, so the show may be worth watching just for his acting. He has been nominated numerous times for different awards. He won an Emmy and Golden Globe for the miniseries ‘John Adams’ in 2008. He won another Golden Globe for his film portrayal of fictional character Barney Panofsky, based on Mordecai Richler’s novel ‘Barney’s Version’—possibly the greatest Canadian novel ever written.
Eric Schrier, head of programming at FX made a statement saying, “Like Elmore Leonard, Charles Willeford is one of the most deeply respected writers of crime fiction and he created a wholly original and colorful lead character in Detective Hoke Moseley. Scott Frank delivered a magnificent script and we are honored that Paul Giamatti will bring ‘Hoke’ to life.”
