Despite just reaching season highs in both the key demo and total viewer categories, A&E has opted not to renew its Florida-set police procedural 'The Glades' for a fifth season. This comes not too long after the network announced the third season renewal of 'Longmire,' which immediately followed 'The Glades' on Monday nights. 'Longmire' also hit highs with its finale, but I guess the A&E line-up just wasn't big enough for the both of them.
'The Glades' premiered in July 2010, and its debut episode set new records for original programming on A&E. 'Glades' became the first scripted series to be renewed for a second season by the network, and started the process of establishing A&E as a place to go for quality first-run programming.
The show starred Matt Passmore as Jim Longworth, a Chicago cop forced to relocate to south Florida after being falsely accused of getting down and dirty with his Captain's wife. He initially assumes this will mean a relatively quiet working environment, but quickly finds out that the titular 'Glades' aren't as serene as they first seem. Other main cast members include Kiele Sanchez, Carlos Gomez, Jordan Wall, Michelle Hurd, and Uriah Shelton.
The final episode of 'The Glades' aired this past Monday at 9pm. This leaves the series with a respectable (for cable) total of 49 episodes. Sadly for fans, the finale ended on a major cliffhanger, one that will now never be resolved. I guess this is the part where fans start to petition for a TV movie to wrap up the loose ends.
