Primetime Ratings, Thursday, 8/29/13

Motive

CBS dominated the night in all measures.

Despite the CBS win, 'Big Brother still dropped three tenths, posting a 1.8. The two-hour finale of 'Motive' dropped right back down to an 0.8, following last week's 1.0. While the show has already been renewed in its home country of Canada, its almost certain that ABC won't bring it back stateside. 'Rookie Blue' dropped two tenths to an 0.9. The season finale of 'Hollywood Game Night' bowed to a 1.0, a two tenths drop from last week. It's important to note that these drops were heavily influenced by primetime premptions in many major markets due to preseason football. Curse you football, you make compiling accurate ratings so much more difficult.

Pretty much. Several major markets showing football meant less eyes available for the normal primetime programming. Thus the ratings drop. A program wouldn't even have to be pre-empted itself, because the added competition from the NFL would hog the coveted 18-49 demo.

The ratings dropped because a bunch of areas decided to show football rather than the season finale. WTH?
