'HBO's 'True Detective': Check Out the First Trailer
One of HBO's most highly anticipated new series in recent memory is the upcoming crime drama 'True Detective.' The project marks Woody Harrelson's first regular TV role since Woody Boyd on 'Cheers,' and is the first regular TV role ever for Matthew McConaughey. Created by up-and-coming author and screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto, the series' plot concerns detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives intersect and are changed drastically over the course of a seventeen year manhunt for a vicious serial killer claiming victims throughout Louisiana.
The story is told using two time frames, one set in 1995 as Cohle and Hart are investigating the killer's first murder, and the other set in the present day as the two detectives give testimony in relation to the recently re-opened case. The first season will be eight episodes, and is expected to wrap up the mystery by the season finale. If successful, the show would continue with new characters in a new setting the following year, much like the approach being taken by FX's American Horror Story.
And now, for the main event. The first full trailer for 'True Detective' can be viewed below.
I don't know about you, but I found that trailer quite effective. I was already planning on checking the show out, but now it's a certainty. With two heavyweights like Harrelson and McConaughey (contrary to popular opinion, McConaughey is quite the capable actor) in front of the camera, I have no doubt that 'True Detective' will be yet another big success for HBO.
The first season of 'True Detective' premieres in January. Will you be watching?
