US Version of 'Dead Boss' Coming to FOX

Dead Boss

FOX has committed to make an adapted pilot based on the British comedy ‘Dead Boss.’ The show has to date only had a run of one season and six episodes on the UK’s BBC Three.

‘Dead Boss’ is about a woman named Helen Stephens who is falsely accused of murdering her boss and given a prison sentence of 12 years.

Sharon HorganThe original series was created by Sharon Horgan (who stars as Helen) and Holly Walsh. Horgan has already had three shows go to pilot in the US, all with ABC—‘Pulling,’ ‘Bad Mom,’ and ‘Bad Management.’

Patricia Breen (‘Big Love,’ Suburgatory’) will write the adapted pilot for the potential series.

The original series has focused on the funny side of being an outsider thrust into prison life, but has also included elements of a murder mystery.

Since this is a comedy based on a female who is out of place inside a prison, there will no doubt be comparisons to the Netflix original series ‘Orange is the New Black.’ While Helen is wrongfully accused of murder, Piper is guilty of her crime. ‘Dead Boss’ can try to differentiate itself from OITNB by pursuing the murder mystery aspect, as Helen tries her best to prove her innocence.

There is no word yet on who will play the lead or any of the supporting roles for the U.S. version of the show.

I didn't like either the original UK Dead Boss, or Orange Is The New Black, so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like this.

Far from drunk,i dont care, being a woman myself for fart jokes, though i do enjoy them of course in the right place.

I didnt think it dead boos was funny, simple as that and ive found that BBC three is the home of the purile, unfunny, full of fart joke "comedy" thats aimed at the "young" peeps so it feels it can be edgy and left field when in truth for the most part the comides it churns out arent funny ive found but i suspect im a bit older than you at nearly 50 and certainly older than bbc three's target aduience im sure, these are fairly grim times in teh UK for comdies, drama we can turn out with the best of them.

I would ask this though,if as you "anonymous" argue dead boss is so funny why isnt coming back or indeed been repeated on the beeb since august 2012 they do like to repeat everything there thats for sure, i suspect its been binned though of course theres no comfirmation of that so its just conjecture on my part but it doesnt look good at all.

fozzie, were you drunk when viewing. Dead Boss is very funny. Dry brit with and no laugh track. Then again some of us are just not discerning regarding mature, lack of fart joke, comedy.

Seems they are looking for anything set in a prison with women for me,if this pilot is anything like the episode i had the misfortune to watch when it was on sometime last year, then i will gie it a wide berth.it was shockingingly bad and thankfully there doesnt seem to be any more in the pipeline over here in the UK so thats one thing to be thankful for,but given the "comedic" dross bbc three pumps out and inflicts on the few people who watch the channel it wouldnt surprise me at all to see it lurch back on the screen.

Fox,you can do better,im baffled at american TV seeming obsession with unfunny and failed british TV shows american TV can and does comedy very well have confidence with homegrown talent and you surely wont go far wrong.

I'm still waiting for more of the UK show, some kind of continuation of the mistery.
