Ryan Murphy has a knack for bringing in top notch talent for his television work, and today's casting news is no different. 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' and 'Mission Impossible 3' star Michelle Monaghan has signed on to star in the producer's latest series effort, the sexually charged HBO series 'Open.'
Monaghan joins an already enticing ensemble, including Wes Bentley ('American Beauty'), Jennifer Jason Leigh ('Single White Female'), Scott Speedman ('Citizen Gangster') and Anna Torv ('Fringe'). The drama is reportedly a modern exploration of sexuality and relationships, written and produced by the prolific Murphy and partner Lauren Gussis ('Dexter').
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monaghan will portray Grace, a successful gynecologist recently engaged to Speedman's character Jonathan. Despite her commitment, she develops a connection with Torv's Windsor who is also in a relationship with Jennifer Jason Leigh's Holly.
By the time 'Open' premieres, Monaghan will already be familiar to HBO viewers, as she is set to appear in the network's upcoming 'True Detective' opposite Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. The crime anthology series will premiere in January. All this series work and the actress already has a full plate of features in production or set to wrap, including Claudia Myers' 'Fort Bliss' co-starring Ron Livingston, 'A Many Splintered Thing' with Chris Evans, and 'Better Living Through Chemistry' starring Sam Rockwell.
With such a strong cast and Murphy's reputation for quality, HBO's 'Open' is looking more and more like a can't miss prospect bolstered even more with the addition of Monaghan. Are you looking forward to this new series?
