ABC has purchased ‘DINKS,’ a comedy from Casey Wilson, June Diane Raphael, and Jonathan Groff.
Jonathan Groff was the showrunner on the now cancelled ‘Happy Endings,’ while Wilson played core character Penny Hartz. Raphael, who has done work on ‘Burning Love,’ also had a role in one episode of ‘Happy Endings,’ playing character Melinda Shershow.
Wilson and Raphael have also worked together previously to write the movies ‘Bride Wars’ and ‘Ass Backwards.’
DINK is an acronym for “Double Income, No Kids,” usually meant to denote a wealthy couple with a yuppie lifestyle.
According to Variety, the show “centers on a thirtysomething couple who straddle the line between life with kids and the single life without them.”
This premise could mean a few different things. Maybe the couple have kids, but sometimes they like to go out and act like a pair of newlyweds. Or, probably more likely, the couple have no kids, are enjoying life too much, and are torn about whether or not they should try to conceive.
The fun of this premise might come from the couple’s potentially outrageous lifestyle. They may be a pair of narcissists too interested in their own materialism, and have fear of letting any of it go. But I’m only guessing at this point.
Raphael is attached to star in ‘DINKS,’ but the other roles are yet to be cast.
