Danielle Brooks, who plays “Taystee” on ‘Orange is the New Black,’ announced to Ebony magazine that she will be on the next season of HBO’s ‘Girls.’
“I just shot an episode of ‘Girls’ for HBO,” she said in the interview with Ebony. “I will be the first black woman on ‘Girls,’ so that’s exciting for me.”
The first season of ‘Girls’ was criticized by some for a lack of ethnic diversity. The same criticism has been given to other New York based shows, such as ‘Friends’ and ‘Sex and the City.’ Creator Lena Dunham publically addressed the concerns last year.
Brooks did wonderful work on OITNB this year, with her role initially looking like that of a periphery character, but her presence on the show fully developed as the season progressed. We saw her release from the institution, her struggles on the outside, and her surprising return to prison.
We will get to see more of Taystee, as last month it was announced that she would be returning for season two of OITNB as a series regular.
Brooks did not go into what her role would be on ‘Girls,’ or if she was slated to film any more episodes.
She adds to a list of people for season three of ‘Girls’ that include, Amir Arison, Kim Gordon, Felicity Jones, Melonie Diaz, and Michael Zegen.
Are you looking forward to seeing Danielle Brooks on ‘Girls’?
