Captain America may have lost her, but it looks like we don't have to!
Based on the one-shot short film included on the upcoming BluRay release of 'Iron Man 3,' Marvel is developing an ongoing 'Agent Carter' series about the World War II-era character introduced in 'Captain America: The First Avenger.' Directed by Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, 'Agent Carter' focuses on Captain America's love interest for that film, who was played by Hayley Atwell (pictured above). The one-shot, also titled 'Agent Carter,' is about the young secret agent pursuing American interests in the 1940s after her superhero boyfriend has crashed, presumed dead.
According to Deadline, the 'Agent Carter' series remains in the very early stages with details still up in the air. It remains uncertain whether or not Hayley Atwell would reprise her role, but given the actor's enthusiasm for the one-shot it seems likely that she would be interested in the series, as well. Although Atwell has been appearing in successful projects for a decade, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (and the upcoming sequel, 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier') represents her most high-profile role to date. Atwell has also appeared in the TV miniseries 'Black Mirror' and 'Life of Crime.'
A one-shot short-film titled 'Item 47' was bundled with 'Marvel's The Avengers' on BluRay, which eventually spawned the upcoming ABC series 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' These one-shots are seemingly more than an Easter egg for fans; they are also serving as excellent test-pilots for potentially-ongoing projects.
The massive Marvel cinematic universe continues to grow. Along with 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' the upcoming feature releases for Marvel include 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'
