British actor Richard Coyle has won the coveted lead spot opposite film star John Malkovich in NBC's upcoming pirate drama 'Crossbones.'
The forty-two year old actor's recent television roles were on 'Covert Affairs' and 'Life of Crime.' This is a big, high-profile role for Coyle, who also appeared in Madonna's film 'W.E.' Coyle will be appearing with Malkovich, a feature film star who has been nominated for two Academy Awards. 'Crossbones' became big news for NBC when Malkovich officially joined the project back in March, 2013.
'Crossbones' is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws, and miscreant sailors. To gain control of this fearsome society, Tom Lowe (Coyle), a highly skilled undercover assassin, is sent to the pirates’ haven to take down the brilliant and charismatic Blackbeard. But the closer Lowe gets, the more he finds that his quest is not so simple. Lowe can’t help but admire the political ideals of Blackbeard, whose thirst for knowledge knows no bounds.
'Crossbones' has also cast Claire Foy ('Upstairs Downstairs,' 'White Heat') as Kate, the beautiful Governor’s daughter, now a pirate who works for Blackbeard. Kate will also serve as a love interest for Lowe. Joining Foy is Tracy Ifeachor, known for a brief stint on 'Doctor Who.' Ifeachor will play Nenna, a smart, powerful fighter who exhibits complete loyalty and a slight fear for Captain Blackbeard.
And to cap it all off, the pilot episode of 'Crossbones' will be directed by David Slade, feature film director of 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' and '30 Days of Night.' Sounds like a lot of people will be tuning in to NBC for this one.
