It looks like Bethany Joy Lenz's plate post-'Dexter' is filling up. Not only will she be guest-starring on the upcoming landmark 300th episode of 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,' but Deadline reports that the actress will topline one of E!’s first two scripted pilots: the Krista Vernoff/Diane Warren drama 'Songbyrd.'
According to the site, Lenz will play Lauren Byrd, a successful love-song writer, "who employs a small staff, including her sister, to enable and manage her eccentric, yet wildly successful process." Of course, what would a TV show about someone who writes love songs be without including some romance of her own? Which explains why there will be an ex-fiance thrown into the mix. Apparently he will prompt Lauren to come to terms with her past, so that she can find new inspiration.
The hour-long pilot (scripted by Vernoff, an ex-'Grey's Anatomy' scribe) is loosely based on Warren's life, and is exec-produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron from 'Smash.'
This isn't the first time Lenz has mixed music with her acting. During her eight-year turnon 'One Tree Hill,' her character Haley James Scott eventually became a singer, even dueting alongside singer Ryan Adams. Lenz sang on the show's soundtrack.
In addition to having wrapped up her recurring role on 'Dexter,' Lenz is also known for her roles on 'Guiding Light' and 'Life Unexpected.' She also has plans of releasing her first full-length studio album in the near future, which she describes as "Patsy Cline meets Paula Cole meets Sam Cooke."
