Shannon Lucio Joins ‘Supernatural’ as Castiel’s Love Interest

Step aside Sam and Dean, because it’s time for Castiel (Misha Collins) to get hit with Cupid’s arrow. That’s right, everybody’s favorite ‘Supernatural’ angel is getting a love interest, TVLine exclusively reported yesterday.

As we all know, this season’s going to be a little different for Cas, as not only has he fallen from Heaven, but he’s also going to be figuring out how to be human. One of those human needs? Women and love.

Actress Shannon Lucio, known for her roles on ‘The O.C.,’ ‘Prison Break,’ and ‘The Gates,’ is the lucky lady who will portray said love interest. Lucio will star as April Kelly, and she’ll pop up in Season 9 Episode 3 on Tuesday, Oct. 22. No further details have been released about April, but if we know anything about Cas, he’s going to need all the help he can get in the love department. Even though he did have some experience with demon Meg, here’s a first date tip: be sure to drape that lovely trench coat around her shoulders to keep her warm.

FYI, for those wanting to see Lucio's acting chops, you can check her out in tonight’s Marvels ‘Agents of ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ pilot.

As Collins revealed at Comic-Con about human Cas,"It is going to be an immensely rich terrain to explore - his becoming human. ... Now he's really down in the dirt of being human and getting to experience what it is to actually eat and then what happens to the food after you eat it." And, as we all now know, he'll also be experiencing love. This will truly be a new Castiel.

‘Supernatural’ Season 9 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9/8c. In case you missed it, check out the latest poster for this season (above), which reads, “prepare for the fall.” Let’s also reflect on how smokin’ hot Sam, Dean and Castiel look. Oh, and let’s not forget about Crowley, who can rock a suit and hold a red flower all at once.

Hopefully, the whole season isn't going to be about this. I only watch because I'm really curious to see how the show ends and see if Dad shows back up and sets things right. I mean, there's got to be an end to this right?

She’s not a love interest, in a tv guide interview earlier this summer, Misha said ‘love is too strong a word, but there will be sex,” so there you have it. no need to panic. they will probably play the Cas becomes human angle for humor.

@ Dogtag: The angels cast out of heaven last season have simply lost their wings and thusly their ability to teleport. Otherwise they remain angels in every other way. Cas is the one who is now human, because Metatron extracted his angelic grace.

Dogtag, you understand according to the bible angels mated with mankind. Nephalim were featured in a John Carpenter film and the Sandman Slim novels.I imagine love was involved in those Angelic trysts. Except for those damn fat little cherubim!

Well, that's a disappointing, and unappealing turn. I didn't realize the angels cast -- or barred -- from Heaven would become human in the process, somehow. That makes no sense to me. And I have pretty much zero interest in Castiel as a human. We've had a few tastes of that in previous years already. More than enough, I think.

Also, Castiel, as we know him, is a spirit-being (angel) inhabiting a human host. So, it's further disappointing to me that the character of Castiel would choose to hold onto the host if his mission and purpose as an agent of Heaven is over. Or, that he would even be allowed to, or forced to, keep the host at all.

My $0.02.

Castiel will always be Manny Skerritt, from Nip/Tuck, in my mind.
