With the increasing blossoming ratings of the CW’s hit vampire series, The Vampire Diaries, we are left to question how long vampires will last as the upper echelon of pop culture, or will soon be replaced by mummies or gargoyles. Zombies are putting up a good fight, but the hit series is amidst its third season, and is planning some interesting takes on the prototypical vampires through the following weeks.
Lead character Caroline (Candice Accola) went through a major turning mid-season 3, where her and other characters in the established show realized they may actually have to deal with death. The whole idea is that vampires live forever, and while many characters are finely in-tuned with their immortality, such Damon played by Ian Somerhalder (whose last major role was as Boone in the flagship dramas Lost), others are perplexed and confused about the issue.
The vampires discover that their lives are intertwined to an Original’s lineage, making them, by extension, mortal. The theme of mortality definitely rings true throughout the remaining episodes of the season.” said Candice.
Read between the lines- someone will likely face death for the Vampire Diaries highly anticipated finale.
The season finale is scheduled May 10th and a quick renewal of the series is expected for the 2012-2013 television season.
