Modern Family

ABC scored the 18-49 demo victory, while CBS drew more total viewers.

The season premiere of 'The Middle' was a mixed bag for ABC. The episode was down a concerning four tenths from last year's premiere, but still managed to win the 8pm timeslot. The series premiere of the James Caan/Maggie Lawson comedy 'Back in the Game' was a dud, its 2.2 being the lowest number for an ABC fall comedy premiere in four years. The one-hour return of 'Modern Family' surely disappointed its network, dropping an alarming point and three tenths from last year's premiere. Ouch. The Emmy-winner did at least win 9pm, despite the huge tumble. The second season premiere of 'Nashville' also took a dive, falling eight tenths from 2012's series debut.

One week after its lowest rated fall premiere in series history, 'Survivor' fell even further. The reality institution earned a 2.4, one of its lowest ratings ever. The season premiere of 'Criminal Minds' dipped three tenths from last year, posting a 2.8. The 'CSI' premiere did even worse, dropping five tenths to a 2.0. Could the 'CSI' franchise be nearing the end? I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

One of the biggest blows of the night was to NBC's sophomore drama 'Revolution.' Despite being one of the bigger hits of last season, last night's premiere drew a positively woeful 1.8 demo and less than seven million viewers. I'm calling it right now. Season two will be 'Revolution's last. For comparison's sake, 2012's series premiere earned a whopping 4.1. One of the lone success stories of the night was 'Law & Order: SVU', which rose six tenths to a 2.7. 'The X-Factor' was up three tenths from last week, but is still way below what it was doing at this point last season. Finally, the season finale of 'Capture' fell two tenths for The CW.
