‘Arrow’ Season 2 is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the second season than by announcing some exciting casting news?
The show is gaining a “ruthless scientist,” and it’s also welcoming back a character that some might have thought was gone for good. So, if you don’t want to know which character that is, then read no further.
Here we go. Which ‘Arrow’ character is making HIS return? It is none other than Malcolm Merlyn, played by the talented John Barrowman, TVLine has confirmed. That’s right, sometime during Season 2 the villainous Dark Archer will return for at least two episodes. Now, whether he’ll appear in a flashback, in a dream, as a "ghost," or in the flesh, has yet to be revealed.
If you recall, Malcolm was last seen with an arrow in his chest thanks to The Hood aka Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), but his fate remained unknown, unlike his poor son, Tommy (Colin Donnell) who only lasted for one season.
In May, executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke with EW.com and touched on Malcolm’s so-called death, “Well, it certainly looks that way. John Barrowman is amazing and we love him and the one thing I will say with respect to both Tommy’s death and Malcolm Merlyn’s death is this is a show that does flashbacks.”
Hmm…does that answer our question about Barrowman’s return as Malcolm? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
In other ‘Arrow’ casting news, ‘Dawson’s Creek’ alum Dylan Neal is reportedly joining the series as famed DC Comics character Dr. Anthony Ivo, ScreenCrush.com has revealed. Ivo will pop up on the island and “emerge as a brutal but ruthless scientist who will stop at nothing to unearth a breakthrough that dates back to the latter days of World War II.” Neal will appear in at least four episodes, with his first appearance in episode 5.
The upcoming season looks to be quite thrilling, especially with the addition of Grant Gustin as The Flash and the romance between Oliver and Shado growing on the island, as exclusively revealed to TVRage.com by Shado aka Celina Jade herself.
‘Arrow’ returns for its second season on Wednesday, Oct. 9 on The CW.
