FOX Orders Damon Wayans Jr. Comedy Pilot

Damon Wayans Jr. has moved on from the cancellation of ‘Happy Endings’ over the summer. He will executive produce a comedy for FOX, ‘Man/Child,’ along with ‘Wilfred’ showrunners, Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne.

Wayans will also star in the comedy, which FOX already picked up for a pilot commitment. Agnew and Jorne are set to write the pilot script. ‘Modern Family’ director, Jason Winer, will direct the pilot.

‘Happy Endings’ ran for three seasons on ABC. It received strong reviews from critics, but never found a foothold. ABC executive Paul Lee felt that the show just did not fit in with the network’s overall schedule. There were rumours of different cable networks picking up the show following the cancellation, but nothing ever materialized.

Wayans Jr. got his start in TV by appearing in a few episodes of his father’s sitcom, ‘My Wife and Kids.’ He’s done stand-up, and had several TV and film roles.

Wayans also played Coach on the pilot episode of ‘New Girl.’ He had to leave the show once ‘Happy Endings’ got picked up for a series. FOX recently announced that Wayans would return as Coach, and that they would develop a backstory for the character’s absence.

Wayans have been bombing the last decade or so. All of them, and that says something. Not worth watching, less than a season.
