Someone's going to be pushing up animated daisies on 'The Simpsons' sometime in the very near future. Executive producer Al Jean revealed in an interview with The Sun News that the series will definitely be killing off one of its beloved characters by the end of the FOX show's 25th season.
So who exactly will be paying the ultimate price? Although Jean wouldn't go into specifics, he was willing to offer fans a tiny hint: “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is," Jean remarked.
The show’s list of winners in the Outstanding Voice-Over Performance category include:
-Anne Hathaway as Princess Penelope (2010)
-Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson (2009)
-Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob (2006)
-Dan Castellaneta as “various characters” (2004)
-Hank Azaria as “various characters” (2003)
-Hank Azaria as “various characters” (2001)
-Hank Azaria as Apu (1998)
-Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson (1993)
Additionally, six separate actors took home the prize in 1992: Nancy Cartwright (for Bart); Jackie Mason (for Rabbi Krustofsky); Julie Kavner (for Marge, Patty, Selma and Marge’s Mother); Yeardley Smith (for Lisa); Marcia Wallace (for Mrs. Krabappel); and Dan Castellaneta (for Homer and Grandpa Simpson).
So, in other words, there's really no telling who it could be...
This upcoming tragedy will mark the first death in nearly 14 years when Maud Flanders — the wife of the Simpsons' neighbor Ned — passed away unexpectedly way back in February 2000. Now it's just a question of who will be joining her for that long dirt nap. Plan your death pools accordingly!
