For those wishing Bob Newhart would be returning to ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ you can count your wish as granted, because CBS just announced the legendary actor is returning as Professor Proton.
Newhart, known for hits like ‘Newhart’ and ‘The Bob Newhart Show,’ first appeared last season as Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) favorite childhood hero, Professor Proton. In an upcoming Season 7 episode, Newhart’s character contacts Leonard (Johnny Galecki) for help with an experiment. Well, anyone who watches the show knows this will rub Sheldon the wrong way -- he will get revenge on both Leonard and Professor Proton. How? He reaches out to a rival science TV host played by...wait for it...Bill Nye ‘The Science Guy’! Yes, Bill Nye will play himself in the episode. Talk about some great science material.
This should really cheer up Bill Nye, since he was the latest star to be voted off ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ Maybe he can merge science and dancing together when helping Sheldon?
Even though he only appeared in one episode, Newhart stole the show as Professor Proton. He even took home an Emmy, Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, for his role. This was his first Emmy win EVER. It’s about time this legend earned an Emmy for his acting talents.
Are you excited to see Newhart and Bill Nye experiment on ‘The Big Bang Theory’?
Be sure to tune in for the episode when it airs Thursday, Nov. 7 at 8/7c on CBS.
