"There's only one Halle Berry."
That quotation is part of a statement released earlier today by Steven Spielberg, speaking on behalf of Amblin Television, the producers behind CBS' upcoming drama 'Extant.' Spielberg's statement was released in order to proudly announce that the Academy Award-winning Berry would be starring in 'Extant,' a sci-fi drama thriller aimed for a summer 2014 release.
"We are incredibly honored that [Berry] has chosen 'Extant' to expand her illustrious career," Spielberg continued. "As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her." Spielberg, who has won three Academy Awards himself, is best known for his feature film work (which includes 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,' 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' and 'Schindler's List') but has recently branched out into the world of television. Berry is also known for her feature film work (including 'Monster's Ball,' 'X-Men' and 'Cloud Atlas') and is making a return to television after a very long absence; the last time she regularly appeared on a scripted series was twenty-two years ago.
From Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios, the 13-episode 'Extant' centers on an astronaut (Berry) who, following a year-long solo mission, attempts to settle back in to her everyday life. Ultimately, her experiences in both space and at home will lead to events that change the course of history.
As part of the 'Extant' deal, Berry has entered into a two-year first-look deal with CBS television studios. Could the small screen offer the beautiful actress a career rebirth? 'Extant' certainly sounds like an interesting project--stick with TVRage.com as the rest of the casting comes to light.
