Well, it looks like ‘Girl Meets World’ will be short of an older brother when the show premieres on the Disney Channel.
Actor Teo Halm recently revealed on Twitter that he will no longer be playing Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel, above) oldest son, Elliott Matthews. Yesterday he broke the news by tweeting, “So guys, Disney decided that it wouldn't work to have an older brother on the show; I won't be on Girl Meets World. Thank you to everyone❤️.”
Fishel also tweeted her former onscreen son some support, “Teo, you are an incredible talent and I adore you. You may still call me "mom." :)”
The highly anticipated ‘Boy Meets World’ spin-off will now focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), along with their youngest son, Louis (August Maturo). For those who don’t know, the show tells the story of adults Cory and Topanga and will obviously center on their daughter’s navigation through life. Like her father’s sidekick and bff Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), Riley will also have her own best friend named Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Funnily enough, Cory will also be Riley’s history teacher, while Topanga runs an afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding -- yes, pudding.
Set in New York City, the comedy series is all about the “tween girl’s perspective.” As executive producer Michael Jacobs relayed in a statement, “‘Girl Meets World’ is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made ‘Boy Meets World’ so popular.”
Do you think it’s a mistake for Disney to cut Halm’s character? Do you think the show will do better if it focuses somewhat completely on Riley? Let us know your thoughts.
‘Girl Meets World’ is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
