Mother and daughter acting duo Susan Sarandon & Eva Amurri Martino will be starring in an upcoming pilot for NBC where they will play... mother and daughter. The single-camera comedy project is called 'Growing Ivy' and has received a pilot order from NBC with the high-profile duo attached to star.
The project is based on an original idea from Martino, who will also be co-writing the script with Will McCormack. 'Growing Ivy' is about a Type-A personality Ivy Davis (played by Martino) who craves the stability she lacked in her childhood and, as a result, has thrown herself into her career at the expense of her personal life. In an attempt to restore balance and potentially find love, she invites her freewheeling, eccentric mom, Franckie (played by Sarandon), to move in with her and work on their relationship.
Martino, who is the daughter of Sarandon and feature film director Franco Amurri, had a breakout television recurring role throughout one season of Showtime's 'Californication.' Since then, Martino has been appearing on television comedies such as 'The Mindy Project' and 'New Girl.' Sarandon is an actress that needs no introduction: she's an Academy Award winner, after all. Sarandon has recently been recurring on 'The Big C' along with a couple of memorable appearances on '30 Rock.'
This is not the first time that Sarandon and Martino have appeared together in the same project: Martino appeared as her daughter in 'The Banger Sisters' back in 2002 and Sarandon also played Martino's mother in 'Middle of Nowhere.' And who could forget their cameo appearance together on 'Friends'?
Sarandon and Martino will also act as executive producers on 'Growing Ivy.'
