‘The Mentalist’ Bumps Rockmond Dunbar to Series Regular

Well, it’s official, Rockmond Dunbar has officially been promoted to a series regular on ‘The Mentalist,’ TVLine exclusively reports.

For months, there has been speculation on whether or not the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor would become a series regular on the CBS drama. News first broke in August that Dunbar would be joining Season 6 for three episodes as FBI Supervisory Agent Dennis Abbott, who is described as a “no-nonsense” guy who is unimpressed by Jane’s wit and unique crime-solving skills. His first episode hasn’t even aired yet, so it says a lot that the show is promoting him.

Dunbar isn’t the only actor joining ‘The Mentalist,’ as ‘Monday Mornings’ alum Emily Swallows is also slated to appear as Kim Fischer, “an enigmatic woman who is going to have a profound influence on Jane’s life.” There’s also a good chance Swallows will become a series regular, like Dunbar.

It’s no shock that the series is bringing on new actors and characters, especially since it was announced awhile back that both series regulars (since Season 1) Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman would be exiting the show midseason.

Season 6 is turning out to be a big year for ‘The Mentalist.’ From the unveiling of Red John’s identity to Righetti and Yeoman exiting, what else can we expect for the hit show?

What do you think of Dunbar’s promotion? Do you think he’ll fit in with the cast? Sound off in the comments and let us know your thoughts.

Expect Dunbar’s debut on Nov. 10, and don’t forget to catch 'The Mentalist’ every Sunday at 10/9c.

This guy is a stellar actor and brings not only style, but layers to all of his characters, even on SOA, where I think he's severely been under utilized. The fact that the Mentalist saw his appeal and what he can bring to the show, early on, means they're definitely on the right track to shaking things up and keeping the show going for at least 2-3 more seasons.
