Is CBS Developing a ‘Charmed’ Revival Series?

Are the Halliwell sisters and the Power of Three returning to the small screen? According to Vulture, they will be if CBS has anything to say about it.

It looks like CBS is currently developing a ‘Charmed’ reboot. Wait...what?

Very little details are available right now, but it seems ‘Party of Five’ co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner are co-writing the next version, or as insiders call it, a “re-imagining” of ‘Charmed.’ The potential series will be produced by CBS TV Studios (along with the Tannenbaum Company), which has the rights to everything created by producer Aaron Spelling.

‘Charmed’ first premiered in 1998 and lived to see eight seasons. The hit WB magical drama starred Holly Marie Combs, as Piper, Alyssa Milano, as Phoebe, and Shannen Doherty, as Prue. Eventually, Doherty was replaced by Rose McGowan, who took on the other sisterly Halliwell role of Paige. The series focused on the sisterly relationship between three witches who used their powers to vanquish demons and protect innocents. Oh, and the series always had gorgeous men entering and exiting their lives (whether romantic or not), including Brian Krause, Julian McMahon, Ivan Sergei, Drew Fuller and Eric Dane, to name a few.

As a huge ‘Charmed’ fan, the series has only been off the air for seven years, but I'm hestitant to get excited about this so-called revival. Do you think there should be a rule that you have to wait so many years before you bring a show back to life? Don't get me wrong, I still like to catch ‘Charmed’ episodes on TNT, and now Lifetime, so maybe this potential reboot will be better than I think.

So far, only a pilot script has been ordered, with no committent to filming...yet. What do you think about a ‘Charmed’ reboot?

I love charmed, I really really do. but how are they seeing it? hasn't it all been done? charmed 2.0; the halliwell brothers? I'm not sure what to think, and expect. guess this is just a case of wait and see for me.

I hope they just continue the series. 7 years later... this is where the Halliwell sisters are at... and this is how much the power of three has grown... And with the original actors for God's sake!!!

Oh yes, bring it back with the original cast - it`ll be like something out of Macbeth.

"Christ, did they turn into such miersable, selfish cunts. Which wouldn't have been bad to show them as flawed heroes, but they suffered no repercussions for their behavior and were never depicted as stationed as lower than on a fecking pedestal. " ---- Hit the nail on the head. H20 is much the same. Some writers seem to think "strong female characters" is the same as selfish ones. There's room on tv for a fantasy-sister show, but it can be far better then Charmed. Charmed for its era was ok (provided you ignore Buffy), but there's a lot better out there now. Once Upon A Time, for example, has 3 infinitely better portrayed female leads.

Not many news articles get this many comments, let alone getting them this quick. Goes to show that Charmed still hasn't lost it's magic (and it's fans). I'd love to see more of it but that isn't going to happen. S8 was already below the series average (after all, the series did end after S7 and was quickly brought back to fill a void that came up unexpected). A reboot or re-imagining will not be more of the same. It will be diffrent and I am, at best, agnostic towards that idea because Charmed fed of it's brilliant cast at the time. There was something for everyone and who doesn't like a little light hearted magic and drama ? Recreating the success of that formula will be very difficult and pleasing fans will be close to impossible because expectations cannot be met unless you can, somehow, bring back the original cast and instead of doing a reboot do something like "Charmed, the second coming of the Witches" (aka 10 years later ...). No, as much as it pains me to say this ... leave it alone CBS. It won't work the way you network tv suits tend to look at things.

I say go for it. It might be actually good the second time around. The only sensible reason to reboot/remake something is to make the most of a failed premise. Charmed had enough of a nice framework gone wrong that I'm sure smart screenwriters can reshape it into something much better. And please don't act like this was some televised piece of masterwork that shall not be blemished. I sincerly don't know how this turd stayed on for so long. Don't get me wrong, the show started off... decent, albeit a Buffy cash-in, but there were grounded stories and sensible characters. But Shannon Doherty must have been some kind of glue, because it fell apart quickly after her kick-off. The stories became absurd and plots were driven soley by convenience. And then there's the trio, or at least the original pair. I mean, Christ, did they turn into such miersable, selfish cunts. Which wouldn't have been bad to show them as flawed heroes, but they suffered no repercussions for their behaviour and were never depicted as stationed as lower than on a fecking pedestal. We're talking Bella Swan level of unintentional villainy. So, yeah, the show had flushed potential that could be utilised better, as long as the ego-driven cast don't start steering.

Witches of East End is not a charmed rip off. Are all police shows rip offs of each other? TV is dying a death, re-booting stuff is just stupid. Watch how fast it get cancelled. For christ's sake write a NEW show. Is it beyond those arsehats to attempt that???
