FOX Releases First 8 Minutes of 'Almost Human'

Almost Human cast

After delaying the series premiere to Sunday, Nov. 17, FOX has decided to try and keep the anticipation level for its new sci-fi cop drama 'Almost Human' on the high end of the spectrum. The network has now released the first eight minutes of the premiere episode online, specifically on Hulu.

Starring Karl Urban ('Star Trek,' 'Dredd') and Michael Ealy ('FlashForward,' 'Common Law'), 'Almost Human' comes to us from the mind of former 'Fringe' showrunner J.H. Wyman. The story is set 35 years in the future, and concerns the mandatory partnering of human Los Angeles police officers with advanced human-like androids. Urban plays the human cop, John Kennex. Ealy portrays his new android partner, Dorian. Kennex doesn't trust robots, and is not happy about his new assignment.

Rounding out the cast is Lili Taylor ('Six Feet Under'), Mackenzie Crook ('The Office' U.K.), Michael Irby ('The Unit'), and former Derek Jeter squeeze Minka Kelly ('Friday Night Lights'). Serving alongside Wyman as executive producers are prolific 'Bad Robot' impresarios J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. 'Almost Human' will be the company's third series to air on FOX, after the recently ended 'Fringe' and the short-lived 'Alcatraz.'

You can view the first eight minutes of 'Almost Human' by clicking here. I'm interested in checking out the series, although it does kind of sound like what would happen if 'Robocop' and 'Alien Nation' had a baby. For what it's worth, our own Sam McPherson did an advance review of the pilot a few months back, and was quite pleased with it. Will you be watching?

Note: This clip is not directly viewable outside the U.S.A.

Been there done that. Just off the top of my head this show is just like Mann & Machine (1992) and also Total Recall 2070 (1999). I'm not saying this will be bad, but I'm not sure how much they can really do without it feel like a repeat. I'll still watch it, but maybe after I rewatch Mann & Machine.

"Kennex (Urban) doesn't trust robots, and is not happy about his new assignment"

When I first heard about this show and this casting of Urban, I had to laugh. With him playing Dr. McCoy in the Star Trek movies, whose love/trust (cough, choke, sputter) of technology (particularly the transporter) is well known, his casting as a cop that doesn't trust technology (at least, not when it's in the form of robots) seems right!

"I didn't realize the clip was US only"

You can count on pretty much *everything* on Hulu being US only. There *may* be things viewable outside the US, but ever since day 1 of Hulu, I've not seen anything that is even viewable in Canada. Given that everything desireable on Hulu is US only, my guess is that anything that *is* viewable outside the US isn't really worth watching :-(

Releasing a clip that is only playable in the US without mentioning it is not very responsible reporting.
