It's going on nine years since we were initially introduced to Ted Mosby and his rather expansive tale of how he came to meet the mother of his children. But even though 'How I Met Your Mother' plans to take its final bow next May, there's still a chance fans will get to see a glimmer of the popular sitcom in a potential spin-off form.
That's right, folks — according to Deadline, CBS is looking to extend the franchise by creating a reverse, father-focused spin-off series currently being referred to as 'How I Met Your Father.' The show will supposedly follow a new group of New York friends and chronicle the life of a particular female member of the group as she recounts the story of how she fell in love with her children's father.
In fact, it's rumored that the new batch of characters could even be introduced during the 'HIMYM' series finale. There’s also buzz that McLaren’s Pub may be featured as the newbies' hangout spot.
However, this doesn't necessarily mean the female character will be the future Mrs. Ted Mosby, though that's already what many fans have been speculating. For all we know, this could be an entirely different love story in general, with just the familiar concept of friends, dating, New York City, and the epic journey toward one's soulmate.
'HIMYM' co-creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas would write and executive produce the project along with 'Up All Night' creator/EP Emily Spivey. Sounds like comedic gold to us! This is going to be great...or should we say legen — WAIT FOR IT — dary?!
So what do you think of this potential new spin-off, readers? Are you for it or against it? Should there be more slap bets, interventions, and triennial 'Star Wars' marathons, or should this new show follow a completely different path with different people?
