Owen Wilson, Starz Developing 'WonderWorld,' 1980s Undercover Drama

Owen Wilson

This is a weird project with a lot of elements involved. Let's take it from the top: the project is called 'WonderWorld' and it is a period drama, even though that period is quite recent. Set in the Ronald Reagan-era of the USA, this 1980s drama is about a team of FBI agents who go undercover... into the sleazy, mob-controlled pornography industry. The best part? This project is based on the true story of one of the most ambitious FBI undercover operations in history. 'WonderWorld' is an hour-long scripted drama and to top it all off, it's being produced by feature film star Owen Wilson.

Joining Wilson as producers are Rene Balcer, Fred Berner, and Regina Lee. Although Wilson is best-Starzknown for his acting performances in films like 'Zoolander,' 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Midnight in Paris,' he has also cut his teeth as a producer. Wilson has produced 'The Royal Tenenbaums,' a film that he also co-wrote and earned an Oscar nomination for, as well as the ill-fated comedy 'You, Me and Dupree.' This is Wilson's first step into television production and he's got Starz in his corner to help make 'WonderWorld' a reality.

Set in Ronald Reagan’s America and inspired by one of the biggest undercover operations in FBI history, 'WonderWorld' follows two straight-arrow FBI agents as they infiltrate the violent Mob-controlled porn industry of the 1980s, with dire consequences for themselves and their families. No word as of yet if Wilson will also star in the project, although it would be an interesting career move for the comic actor. Not only does Wilson rarely appear in drama projects, but he has never appeared regularly on any television series.

I'll be giving this a miss, he's one of those actors that i find more annoying than funny. Can't stand his whiny voice.
